What a fiscal year is
A fiscal year is the twelve-month period an organization uses for budgets and accounts. The US federal government's fiscal year starts on October 1 and is named after the calendar year it ends in, so fiscal year 2048 started on October 1, 2047.
Its quarters are October–December (Q1), January–March (Q2), April–June (Q3) and July–September (Q4). Many companies, schools and other countries use other start dates, such as April 1 in the UK, India and Japan, or July 1 in Australia.
